PARK CITY, Utah — Walmart employees marked Mother’s Day week by directing donations to two Utah nonprofits that serve women and children in crisis, including a $2,000 grant from the retailer’s Park City store to Peace House.
Peace House Executive Director Kendra Wyckoff accepted the contribution, which will fund the organization’s prevention and education programs. According to the nonprofit, the curriculum teaches child-abuse prevention and bystander intervention in local schools and community settings, aiming to stop violence before it starts.
Several Park City Walmart associates have relied on Peace House services, store officials said, deepening employees’ connection to the shelter. Associates even delivered a custom cake to Peace House staff in appreciation of their work.
Statewide, dozens of Walmart stores assembled “Mother and Children Move-In” bags for families moving into The Road Home’s new Family Interim Non-Congregate Housing Facility, or FINCH. The program—Utah’s first emergency shelter offering private rooms for families—will distribute the bags to 85 households. Each donation includes towels, blankets, soap, dishes, silverware, diaper rash ointment, shampoo, conditioner, and washcloths.
Company representatives said the Mother’s Day effort is meant to help mothers and families who are unable to shop for essential items while they transition to safer housing.
