PARK CITY, Utah — The Utah Department of Transportation is inviting residents to weigh in on two transportation studies aimed at improving connectivity and managing future traffic demands in Summit and Wasatch counties.
UDOT will host a combined open house for the Phoston Spur & Rail Trail Study and the U.S. Route 40 Corridor Study on Tuesday, June 3, from 5 to 7 p.m at Utah Film Studios in the Second-Floor Annex. The event will follow an open house format without formal presentations, allowing attendees to speak directly with study team members.
The Phoston Spur & Rail Trail Study focuses on enhancing multimodal transportation options along the Phoston Spur Trail and a segment of the Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail in Summit County. The study aims to improve regional transportation connections and recreational access.
The U.S. Route 40 Corridor Study runs concurrently and seeks to develop long-term solutions for moving people safely and efficiently throughout the highway corridor. Key objectives include identifying solutions to manage future transportation demand and coordinating with local agencies on multimodal connections.
According to UDOT’s timeline, the studies began in February 2025 with initial public engagement and will continue through January 2026. Phase 1, running through October 2025, includes assessments of existing transportation and land use conditions, environmental assessments, concept development, feasibility evaluation, and selection of preferred concepts. Phase 2, extending from October 2025 through January 2026, will focus on environmental documentation.
Due to the proximity of the study areas, the two study teams are working collaboratively to provide information to the public. Additional stakeholder working groups are scheduled for June and September 2025 following the initial open house.
Residents with questions about either study can contact the public involvement team via their hotline number or email, including the applicable study name in the subject line.
