Gas tanker truck fire closes US 40 eastbound lanes near Jordanelle Reservoir

A tanker carrying gasoline experienced a brake fire on US 40 eastbound near mile marker 7.2 in the vicinity of Jordanelle Reservoir. According to Mike Owens of Park City Fire District, the fire was contained to the vehicle’s brakes and, while it scorched the exterior of the tank, it did not damage the gasoline inside or cause the fuel to ignite.

Wasatch County fire crews had already extinguished the blaze before Park City Fire District personnel arrived on scene. Both lanes of traffic on US 40 EB are currently closed, with no immediate estimate for when the roadway will reopen to traffic.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and expect delays in the area. Officials will provide further updates as the situation develops.
