POLAND — Three riders from the Park City-based Outlaw Bike Team —trained on local trails, at Woodward Park City, and Solitude—kicked off the Mountain Bike World Cup season in Bielsko-Biała, Poland on May 16, earning two top-20 finishes in a strong international showing.
For riders Alex Mallen, Luke Mallen, and Drake Parker, cold weather, rain and snow made the riding extremely difficult, adding to the already challenging course. Junior riders Alex and Luke Mallen, both made it to the finals via the new and more competitive qualifying racing. Luke finished 17th with a major mistake just before a flat section costing him significant time. Alex had a technically clean run but had a mechanical causing his rear wheel to lock up but still managed to finish 15th.
Elite rider Parker finished 57th with a tough Qualifier-1 race not going as planned, he overcame the really rough course and slippery conditions in Qualifier-2 and put down a solid run.
“Overall, everyone is happy with the results and hungry for more,” Tyson Henrie, Founder and Head Coach of Outlaw Bike Team said in a statement. All of these results are something to be very proud of and a fantastic start for the World Cup season. We’re pumped on the start of the season and can’t wait for more.”
