Diego Zegarra enters race for Park City Council

Nonprofit leader highlights housing, sustainability, and inclusion in campaign launch

PARK CITY, Utah – Park City nonprofit executive Diego Zegarra announced Tuesday that he is running for a seat on the Park City Council.

Zegarra, a longtime local resident and Vice President of Impact at the Park City Community Foundation, has worked in Summit County for more than a decade in roles focused on community engagement and equity. He becomes one of three early candidates to formally declare a run for council in the 2025 municipal election, joining current County Councilmembers Tana Toly and Jeremy Rubell.

“Local government is where trust is built and where real, lasting change happens,” Zegarra said in a statement. A naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Peru, Zegarra noted that Park City has been central to his personal and professional life.

Zegarra’s platform includes housing affordability, expanded public transportation, environmental protection, and increased support for older adults. He said he hopes to bring a collaborative and inclusive approach to local policymaking.

In addition to his role at the Community Foundation, Zegarra serves on several local boards, including the Park City Chamber & Visitors Bureau, Wasatch Immigration Project, and the Park City Summit County Arts Council.

Park City’s municipal election is scheduled for November. The candidate filing window opens June 2. Two council seats will be on the ballot. Councilmember Ryan Dickey has announced a run for Mayor. If Dickey wins, his council seat will be appointed by the elected Park City Council members.
