PARK CITY, Utah — On Tuesday night at the Park City High School, the boys volleyball team was the first to score 25 points, then 25 points, and 25 points again in the first three sets over Hillcrest High.

Park City Principal Roger Arbabi told TownLift, “This is only the second year that the guys have even been playing volleyball as a sanctioned sport, and it’s amazing how much growth they’ve had in these last two years. It’s certainly a fun atmosphere here tonight with so many of these athlete’s friends and family coming out to support them.”
City was almost down and out in the first set but toward the end of it clawed their way back, tied it up, then surpassed their competitors for the win in front of a large, rowdy crowd, which at one point was doing the wave in the stands on Senior Night.

For one brief moment, the second set saw a tie on the scoreboard at six all, however spectators blinked and that scoreboard then read Miners 24, Hillcrest 10. 25 to 11 is how that ended.
On to the third set, which was not nearly the same blowout. Hillcrest posted a 23 on the board to Park City’s 24 before the Miners scored the final point, winning them the match.

Previously the JV coach, and the assistant varsity coach, now in his first year as the head coach, Eric Damon told TownLift, “The boys really pulled together there in the first set, got a little momentum going into the second set.” He continued, “It’s awesome that they got the win for each other on a special night for all the seniors. This was one of the best matches we’ve had this season so hopefully we can continue that energy into the playoffs.”

Senior highlights
Julian Waters: Kelly Henderson has been a teacher at Park City High School the entire time her son Julian has been a student in the district since Trailside Elementary. He’s attending the University of Utah in the Fall, a fact that his mom and dad, Christian, are proud of. Playing soccer for years, Julian found friendships and fun in this volleyball squad. His mom (holding a bouquet of flowers in her hand being given to her by her senior son) stood next to his dad as he told TownLift, “We’re all very proud of of the growth the team has shown in the last couple years. Just starting last year, Julian got immediately immersed into it. He started playing Club, made great, new friends then excitedly dove head first into this high school program. Seeing the explosive growth throughout the entire state has been wonderful to watch.”

Luke Trombley: Another Miners senior Luke Trombley is enjoying his first year on the volleyball team, he’s played football for the school for the past couple years and looks forward to attending the University of Arizona in the Fall, majoring in Business Management, having been a District student since Trailside Elementary. His dad Jeff helping shag volleyballs after the match (both parents never shying away from an opportunity to volunteer in big and little ways throughout the community) then stood next to Luke’s, mom Tori as she told TownLift, “The team was incredibly welcoming to him which was wonderful.” Luke added, “I had nothing going on after basketball season ended, so I went ahead and tried this sport and I absolutely love it.”

The community’s last chance to spectate one of these free games inside the Park City High School, the next home game, which is also the last regular season match is on Tuesday night, April 29.
