Park Rx Summit County challenge encourages residents to step outside for better health

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah—Residents across Summit County are invited to boost their health by participating in the Park Rx Utah Summit County Challenge, an outdoor event running April 10–17, 2025. The event aims to improve mental and physical well-being through time spent in nature.

The initiative is part of Park Rx Utah, a statewide program that promotes outdoor physical activity as a prescription for healthier living. According to studies, spending just 20 to 30 minutes outdoors can significantly reduce stress and elevate mood.

“This isn’t just a walk in the park, it’s a prescription for a healthier and happier you,” organizers said in a statement.

Participants are encouraged to download the Goosechase app and enter the game code RC2Y2P to join the Wasatch/Summit challenge. The first set of missions will be available on April 10. Participants can form teams or join friends to complete outdoor activities and earn points toward prizes.

The challenge highlights several local recreational areas, including:

  • Basin Recreation Parks and Trails in the Snyderville Basin area.
  • Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter near Kimball Junction.
  • Mountain Trails Foundation and Park City’s network of parks and open spaces.
  • South Summit Trails Foundation, offering maps and routes in the southern parts of the county.
  • Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, accessible via the Mirror Lake Highway.

Organizers hope the event will not only encourage physical activity but also strengthen social connections and foster appreciation for the county’s natural resources.

Park Rx Utah operates year-round, with tools for health professionals, educators, and community leaders to prescribe outdoor time as part of a healthy lifestyle. The annual Park Rx Days event brings communities together with creative challenges, prizes, and social engagement.
