Hideout mayor Phil Rubin announces his resignation

HIDEOUT, Utah — After seven years of service, Hideout Mayor Phil Rubin has officially announced his resignation, citing health reasons. His resignation took effect on Monday, April 14, 2025.

In a formal statement, Mayor Rubin expressed his gratitude and well wishes to the community he has served since 2017:

“As a result of health issues, I am resigning from the office of Hideout Mayor effective Monday, April 14, 2025.
I wish the Town continued success and appreciate all the wonderful progress made by staff and elected officials while I was Mayor.”

Elected to office in 2017 and re-elected in 2021, Mayor Rubin has led the town through rapid growth and transformation. His tenure has been marked by efforts to guide development, maintain a high quality of life for residents, and encourage civic engagement.

Current Mayor Pro Tempore and Town Council Member Chris Baier will assume mayoral responsibilities, including presiding over council meetings, until an interim mayor is officially appointed. The Hideout Town Council will vote on the interim replacement during a Special Meeting scheduled for Monday, May 12, at 6 p.m. at Hideout Town Hall.

Prospective candidates for the interim position must submit their names to Town Recorder Alicia Fairbourne at afairbourne@hideoututah.gov by Thursday, May 8, at 5 p.m. To qualify, candidates must have been primary residents of Hideout for at least 12 months prior to May 12 and must complete conflict of interest and financial disclosure forms by the submission deadline. All applicants will be interviewed by the Town Council during the public meeting.

The interim mayor will serve through the remainder of the calendar year. A new mayor will be elected for a four-year term during the general election in November. Those interested in running must file a Declaration of Candidacy in person at Hideout Town Hall between June 2–6, along with any applicable conflict of interest disclosures.
