PARK CITY, Utah — While Park City is renowned for its winter sports and outdoorsy lifestyle, its collection of scenic mountain golf courses is an often-overlooked asset. Although the Marcella Golf Course, affiliated with Tiger Woods, has received considerable attention, it is a private establishment. This article outlines notable and accessible public courses in the region suitable for summer or autumn golfing—spring availability is based on the melting snowpack. Detailed information regarding pricing, tee times and dress codes can be accessed via the provided links.

Park City Municipal: This course offers exceptional accessibility with tee times available for booking one week in advance. The course is suitable for golfers of all skill levels and features picturesque ski resort views. Practice facilities include a short driving range and a chipping and putting area. The course is adjacent to Hotel Park City and Ruth’s Chris Steak House, perfect for food and beverages after your tee time.

Activities at Canyon’s village include scenic gondola rides, cross country mountain biking, disc golf, hiking and Canyon’s Golf.

Canyons: This course provides scenic vistas and easy access to tee times. It’s known for challenging greens and a demanding layout, with substantial elevation changes that make walking impractical. A par 70, this course features seven par 3s. A refreshment stand is available on the course just before the eighth hole. A driving range is unavailable, but they have nets for warming up. There are lots of options here for food and beverages at the easily accessible Canyons Village.

Mountain Dell: This facility comprises two courses: the Canyon Course, noted for its increased difficulty, and the more forgiving Lake Course. Walking the back nine of the Canyon Course is physically demanding but possible. I typically recommend playing the lake unless you can keep the ball straight off the tee, or you will lose plenty of balls on the back 9 of the Canyon. A clubhouse with food, beverages, and a driving range is available.

Wasatch State Park: This park also features two courses: the Lake Course, which is easier, more forgiving, and easily walkable, and the Mountain Course, which presents greater elevation changes and difficulty, but unforgettable views. The Mountain Course is also notable for its vibrant autumn foliage. A clubhouse offering food and beverages is available.

Soldier Hollow: This venue offers two links-style courses, the Silver and Gold. The Silver Course features six par 3s, six par 4s, and six par 5s, while the Gold Course follows a more traditional design. Soldier Hollow hosted events during the 2002 Winter Olympics and will do so again for the 2034 Games. Local’s secret: Try to book Soldier Hollow in the morning, as it gets windy later in the day. A clubhouse with dining facilities is available, and it offers some amazing views of Heber Valley.

The Outlaw at Hideout: This nine-hole, par-3 course offers some of the most impressive views in the Park City region. Its hillside construction renders it unsuitable for walking and creates a challenge for less experienced golfers. At the moment, there are no amenities available.

Many other public courses in Salt Lake City are worthy of consideration. Park City has several notable private courses, though most require memberships and land ownership. The sentiment that winter attracts individuals to Park City, while summer retains them, is often expressed, with golf being considered a hidden gem. Further information regarding private golf courses will be provided in a forthcoming article.
