PARK CITY, Utah — Fire crews responded to a large house fire at 2600 Lucky John Drive around 5:30 a.m. this morning. The structure, an under-construction home at the corner of Little Kate and Lucky John Drive, was “pretty well involved” when first responders arrived.
“The fire had been burning for a little while before anyone noticed it,” Park City Fire Marshal Mike Owens told TownLift.
According to Owens, the residence has been under construction for several years, and contractors were just months away from completion.
“According to the contractor, they were about five months from being done, and there were no utilities into the house, so water, gas and electric had not been connected to the house yet,” Owens said. “They were just in the process of putting drywall on the walls.”
The home does have temporary utilities in place for construction purposes.
“They do have a temporary propane tank that’s powering propane heaters that were on thermostats. And they do have temporary electric going to the house for construction,” Owens explained.
As of 9 a.m., firefighters were still battling the blaze. Owens said the structure is unsafe to enter, and the metal roof is creating challenges for firefighting efforts.
“The roof is a metal roof, so it’s hard to get water in through the roof to put out that fire,” he said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but Owens noted it’s likely not naturally caused.
“The bright side… no one was injured,” Owens said. “This project has taken three years of their lives to get to this point. And so that’s time lost. You don’t get that back. But no one was injured, so that is the good part.”
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
