LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Utah native Kaysha Love continued her rise in the bobsled world, winning gold in the Women’s Monobob at the IBSF World Championships on Sunday. Love, who led after the first two heats, maintained her dominance to secure the title with a combined four-run time of 3:57.82.
Her teammate, three-time Olympic medalist Elana Meyers Taylor, finished in third place, earning the bronze with a time of 3:58.82. Kaillie Humphries, a two-time Olympic champion, placed eighth in the event.
“I don’t even have words!” Love said after claiming the gold. “I’m thinking sometime tomorrow it’ll probably set in what we just did, but at the end of the day, I know I couldn’t have done it without my incredible teammates, coaches, my family, and my support system.”
Meyers Taylor, a veteran of the sport, expressed her excitement for both her own medal and Love’s breakthrough victory.
“It feels absolutely incredible,” she said. “I was going for the win, but I am super excited for any medal because it didn’t have to happen! It really is a big team effort, and the team really came together to help Kaysha and me win these medals. It’s super exciting.”
Love becomes the seventh pilot to win a world championship for the United States, joining Stanley Benham, Lloyd Johnson, Arthur Tyler, Steven Holcomb, Meyers Taylor and Kaillie Humphries.
Utah Roots and Track to Bobsled Glory
Love, a former University of Nevada-Las Vegas track and field sprinter, made a name for herself as a standout in the 100 meters and 4×100 relay before transitioning to bobsled. Her speed on the track made her an ideal fit for the push start, a crucial element of the sport. After joining the U.S. bobsled team, she quickly rose through the ranks, competing in the two-woman bobsled event at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and now securing her first world title in the monobob discipline.
Love, who grew up in Herriman, trains in the summer months at the UOP’s push track in Park City.
More Strong Performances for Team USA
In the Men’s 2-Man Bobsled event, Frankie Del Duca and Charlie Volker narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth with a total time of 3:40.38. Kris Horn, after a crash in his first heat, staged a remarkable comeback, climbing from 22nd to finish ninth overall with Josh Williamson and Hunter Powell. Geoff Gadbois and Bryce Cheek placed 12th in the event.
The World Championships continues in Lake Placid Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16 with the 4-man and 2-woman competitions.
