Mikaela Shiffrin Makes History with 100th World Cup Victory in Sestriere
SESTRIERE, Italy – Mikaela Shiffrin has once again rewritten the record books, securing her 100th World Cup victory in Sestriere, Italy, on Sunday. The Stifel U.S. Ski Team star, already the most decorated alpine skier of all time, achieved the milestone just two and a half months after a brutal crash and fresh off another gold medal at the Saalbach World Championships.
Shiffrin’s road to this historic win was anything but smooth. In November, while chasing her 100th victory at the Stifel Killington Cup, she suffered a violent crash, sustaining a seven-centimeter puncture wound in her abdomen that tore through her external and internal oblique muscles. Despite the mental and physical toll, Shiffrin bounced back in dominant fashion, winning her second World Cup slalom race since returning and cementing her place in skiing history.
A Legacy of Greatness
At just 16 years old, Shiffrin won her first World Cup in Åre, Sweden, in 2012. Now 29, she has shattered nearly every record in alpine skiing. In March 2023, she claimed her 87th career win, surpassing Swedish legend Ingemar Stenmark’s long-standing World Cup victory record from 1986.
Shiffrin remains the only skier to win in all six World Cup disciplines:
- Slalom (63)
- Giant Slalom (22)
- Super-G (5)
- Downhill (4)
- Combined (1)
- Parallel (5)
Her dominance extends beyond individual races. She has earned 16 Crystal Globes, including five overall titles, alpine skiing’s most prestigious achievement. Her Olympic and World Championship performances are equally staggering, with three Olympic medals (two gold) and 15 World Championship medals (eight gold), tying the record for most in history.
Shiffrin’s influence extends beyond the slopes. In 2023, she was named to TIME’s 100 Most Influential People list and won an ESPY for Best Female Athlete.
A Champion On and Off the Slopes
In celebration of her 100th victory, Shiffrin is partnering with Share Winter Foundation to raise $100,000 for learn-to-ski and snowboard programs, expanding access to winter sports for historically underserved youth.
“Mikaela Shiffrin is truly one of a kind,” said Sophie Goldschmidt, President and CEO of U.S. Ski & Snowboard. “Not only does she reset record after record within her sport, but she does it with a sense of humility and grace. We are so lucky to witness the greatest of all time etching her name in history.”
