Park City Ice Miners clinch Arizona tournament game in a shoot out

PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Park City Ice Miners Hockey Club traveled to Phoenix over President’s Weekend to participate in the National President’s Day Invitational Tournament for 16- and 17-year-old boys.

On Friday, Ice Miners played the California Wave from Los Angeles. The first period ended without goals, the second ended 1-0, and the final score after the third period was 2-0. Ice Miners Ethan Hull and Brady Fox scored the goals. 

The Park City team won their second game against the Texas Warriors in a shootout. The athlete who scored the goal in regular time was Ryker Jones. It was with about four minutes to go in the 3rd period. Then, the player who scored the winning goal in the shootout was Ethan Hull. The goalie was Alex Harhi. The final score was 1-1 after regulation, and the final score after penalties was 2-1. That game was held at the Ice Den in the Chandler suburb. “Overall, the tournament it was okay. We had some pretty low lows, and pretty high highs.” Park City Ice Miner Right Wing and Park City High School student Evan Snyhurowich told TownLift. 

Goalie, Harhi was able to block most of Bozeman’s Montana Wolves on Sunday at the venue, AZ Ice in the suburb of Gilbert in the Park City Ice Miners’ third game of the tournament. He had 52 shots on his goal and only let nine through, the Wolves won 9-0.

Game four, the Ice Miner’s final game of the tournament, also on Sunday, was against the Music City Marauders from Tennessee, it was the quarter finals and Park City lost 4-0. In the 3rd period with about four minutes left in the game a fight broke out between the teams which resulted in two Ice Miners being removed from the game. The quantity of penalties, including a multi-game suspension for one of the Park City players, resulted in one of the Ice Miners’ coaches also then being removed from the game. With about 1.5 minutes left in the game they decided to call it early to avoid any further conflict. That game also took place in the Ice Den in the town of Gilbert.

The Montana Wolves won the tournament with second place going to Ontario, California’s Empire Hockey Club and the third place team was the San Jose Jr. Sharks of San Jose, California.
