Make a splash for the Special Olympics’ Polar Plunge fundraiser

PARK CITY, Utah — It’s almost time to “Get Freezin’ for a Reason;” the annual Special Olympics Utah Polar Plunge in Park City is just weeks away.

The Park City Special Olympics delegation, the Mountaineers, is raising funds to cover the costs of training and competing in 16 sports throughout the year—at no cost to athletes. Fundraising helps over 3,000 Special Olympics Utah athletes.

Event details:

  • What: Special Olympics Utah Polar Plunge
  • Where: Park City MARC
  • When: Saturday, March 1
  • How to participate:
    • Register or donate on the Mountaineers Team page
    • Join the team and recruit other plungers
    • Donate to support the cause—whether or not you take the plunge

“Please decide what it’s worth to support local Special Olympics athletes in their pursuit of excellence,” said Coach Nat, head coach of the Park City Mountaineers. “Every dollar helps us remove barriers to athletic inclusion in our community. Thank you.”

The event is known for its festive atmosphere, with past participants—including Park City government employees, Park City Police Department officers, and local ski and snowboard teams—taking the plunge in creative costumes. Athletes from Park City Mountain, Deer Valley, and the Utah Olympic Park, as well as school district staff, have also joined in previous years, dressing up and braving the cold for a good cause.
