Utah Wildlife Board seeks three new members

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah officials are accepting applications for three positions on the state Wildlife Board, the group responsible for making final decisions about hunting, fishing and wildlife management in the state.

The positions, which begin in August 2025, will replace current board chairperson Randy Dearth, Wade Heaton and Bret Selman. Applications, which opened Jan. 1, are open to any Utah resident through March 31 at 5 p.m.

“To serve on the board, you need to have a strong interest in wildlife and wildlife management in Utah,” said Staci Coons, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Wildlife Board Coordinator. “You also need to be committed to serving and representing the people of Utah.”

One position must be filled by a resident of the state’s Northeastern Region, while the other two positions are open to residents from any region. State law requires at least one representative from each of Utah’s five wildlife regions on the seven-person board.

Board members serve one six-year term and are expected to attend about six public wildlife board meetings annually in Farmington. The positions are unpaid and members do not become employees of the Division of Wildlife Resources.

Applications can be submitted through the Utah Boards and Commissions website. The Utah Wildlife Board Nominating Committee will review applications and conduct interviews before forwarding recommendations to the governor for final selection.
