Park City Hostel: Budget-friendly lodging with local roots

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Hostel has become a go-to destination for budget-conscious travelers seeking a community-focused experience in the heart of Park City. Since opening in 2016, the hostel has offered affordable lodging with a distinct local flair, blending the spirit of Park City with a global sense of camaraderie.

Morrison Haslock, Reservations Manager at Park City Hostel, welcomes guests with a smile and local expertise, ensuring travelers feel right at home in this vibrant community hub.

“We’re really all about bringing a community of people together so they can head out and see the wonders of Park City,” said Morrison Haslock, the hostel’s reservations manager and volunteer coordinator.

The hostel, which can house up to 100 guests, caters primarily to skiers during its busy winter season but has been expanding its appeal to summer adventurers. “We’ve tried to make some improvements for storing bike gear,” Haslock said. “We’re always just trying to support the community of Park City and get people out to find new things to do.”

The vibrant activity boards at Park City Hostel showcase daily events, local attractions, and staff-recommended dining spots, offering guests an authentic and connected Park City experience.

Guests can participate in a range of activities designed to foster connections, including movie nights, puzzles, and “Tabletop Tuesdays,” where board games take center stage in the hostel’s common room. “Our third floor used to be a board game café, so we have a whole collection,” Haslock said. “People gather, laugh, and play. It’s a great way to bring everyone together.”

The community aspect extends to the hostel’s volunteer program, where participants trade work hours for lodging. “It’s something that a lot of hostels do,” Haslock said. “They’re part of our staff and help with reception, housekeeping, and guest relations, including running our activities.”

The cozy common area at Park City Hostel features a pool table, festive decor, and inviting spaces where guests can relax, connect, and share stories from their adventures in Park City.

Owned by the Johnson family, who are longtime Park City residents, the hostel offers an affordable alternative to the area’s more expensive lodging options while maintaining close ties to the local community. “I grew up here, and so did our owner, Nick Johnson,” Haslock said. “We want people to know that we’re here, and if they have family or friends visiting, we’re always happy to host them.”

As it continues to evolve, the Park City Hostel remains committed to its mission of providing a welcoming space for travelers. “We get people from all over the world, and we want them to feel at home here,” Haslock said. “It’s about making connections and discovering everything Park City has to offer.”
