NAC’s O’Brien captures bronze in Switzerland

ST. MORITZ, Switzerland — Saylor O’Brien captured third place in the sitting category at the FIS Para Alpine World Cup in St. Moritz, Switzerland, on Jan. 12.

O’Brien, who lives in Woodland, Utah, near Park City, races for the National Ability Center (NAC) team, sponsored by Caryn and Howard Unger and the Daniel’s Fund.

Born with spina bifida, O’Brien competes in the LW 12-1 classification. The Sisters in Sports athlete earned her Swiss bronze medal in giant slalom, gaining 60 World Cup points with a two-run combined time of 2:35.04.

Finland’s Nette Kiviranta won the sitting giant slalom with a time of 2:22.15, while Spain’s Audrey Pascual Seco took second place at 2:23.66.

Fellow NAC team member Andrew Haraghey placed fourth in two consecutive downhill races the previous week at the Para Alpine World Cup in Italy. In the standing category, Haraghey finished behind medalists from Switzerland, Austria and Canada in one race, and Switzerland, France and Canada in another.

“Beyond stoked to get two personal bests in downhill in Italy! Two fourth-place finishes and oh, so close to the podium,” Haraghey wrote on Facebook.
