Sundance 2025: Lopez, Luna, and Cumberbatch lead star-studded lineup
PARK CITY, Utah — The Sundance Institute has announced an impressive lineup for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, featuring 87 feature-length films and six episodic projects. The Festival will run Jan. 23-Feb. 2, 2025, with in-person events in Park City and Salt Lake City and online screenings from Jan. 30-Feb. 2.
This year’s festival boasts an exceptional roster of talent, with several high-profile premieres. Bill Condon’s “Kiss of the Spider Woman” leads the Premieres section with stars Diego Luna and Jennifer Lopez, while Benedict Cumberbatch headlines the psychological thriller “The Thing with Feathers.” The festival also features Rose Byrne and A$AP Rocky in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” and an ensemble cast including Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, and Kelly Marie Tran in “The Wedding Banquet.”
The documentary slate is particularly strong this year, featuring intimate portraits of musical icons in “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley” and “SLY LIVES!” about Sly Stone. Other notable documentaries include “One to One: John & Yoko,” exploring John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s time in Greenwich Village, and “Prime Minister,” following former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. “SALLY,” a documentary about astronaut Sally Ride, has already earned recognition as the winner of the 2025 Alfred P. Sloan Prize.
Additional star power comes from Olivia Colman and John Lithgow in “Jimpa,” Mark Ruffalo and Lili Reinhart in “Hal & Harper,” and Dev Patel in “Rabbit Trap.” Real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie collaborate in “Together,” while Willem Dafoe appears in the family-friendly “The Legend of Ochi.”
The program includes 96% world premieres and spans 33 countries, with 41% of feature directors making their debuts. “The 2025 Sundance Film Festival continues our commitment to elevating bold and independent voices from around the world,” said Robert Redford, founder and president of the Sundance Institute.
Single-film tickets for in-person and online screenings go on sale Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. MT. Limited passes and packages remain available. The Festival will host its annual fundraising gala, “Celebrating Sundance Institute,” on Jan. 24 and conclude with its awards ceremony on Jan. 31.
