More snow headed for Park City this weekend
As one storm system exits the region today, another is on tap for Saturday night
PARK CITY, Utah – Cold, moist air moving over the Great Salt Lake in the wake of a passing cold front is keeping snow showers going this morning, with Park City area mountains reporting 2-3” as of 9:00 am, while Alta has racked up 6”. Snow showers will be tapering off early this afternoon, and warming will begin through Saturday as another stronger system approaches.
Storm this weekend
On Saturday, snow showers should begin in the afternoon in the higher terrain and become widespread overnight. This will be a warmer storm, but precip should start out as wet snow in the Park City area. Lower valleys will likely see some rain in the beginning of the storm. Snow will continue through Sunday afternoon as colder air continues to enter Utah, and the flow becomes more westerly. Snowfall totals look to be in the 2-3” range for the Park City town/base area, with 5-9” for PCMR and Deer Valley and 9-15” for the Cottonwoods.
This recent series of storms is a welcome sight, as Utah’s snowpack has mostly drifted to below average during a dry spell at the end of November through early December. The Weber-Ogden drainage where Park City is located currently sits at 69% of normal. After this weekend, another potential storm may impact the area starting Monday evening.
