Celebrating the Solstice: Park City’s Freedog and Wyatt Pike light up the longest night

PARK CITY, Utah – The Prospector Theater will host a unique celebration of the Winter Solstice on Saturday, Dec. 21, featuring performances by local singer-songwriters Freedog and Wyatt Pike. Organized by Bryon Friedman—better known as Freedog—the evening aims to blend music, community, and the season’s spirit in an intimate, off-Main venue.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with live music beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available through Eventbrite, priced at $35 for general admission and $75 for VIP access. The evening concludes with an after-party featuring a set by DJ The White Wolf.

A Solstice Tradition in the Making

The event stems from Friedman’s desire to create meaningful solstice celebrations in Park City. “There’s something special about the shortest day and the longest day of the year,” Friedman said. “It’s a marker in time, a philosophical moment to reflect on light and its role in our lives.”

Friedman, a former World Cup skier and Sirius XM #1 emerging artist, has long dreamed of offering the town a distinct solstice celebration. “We’ve done a lot for the summer solstice, but the winter solstice needed something unique. This event brings together local talent, an underutilized venue, and a community-centered vibe,” he said.

A Homecoming for Wyatt Pike

Wyatt Pike, a Park City native and former “American Idol” finalist, will open the night with his acoustic set. “Wyatt is such a talent,” Friedman said. “He’s taken time to recalibrate and return to music, and we’re thrilled to have him join us. This feels like a homecoming for him.”

Local Partnerships, Local Vibes

The Prospector Theater, known for its Sundance screenings and community events, provides the perfect backdrop for this hyperlocal event. Mountain Town Music is sponsoring the evening, with provisions from Proverbial Spirits, Old town Cellars, Motherlode Print Shop, Top Shelf, Rockwell Presents, Daily Rise Coffee, Offset Bier, and LOCOCO Cocoa, ensuring a celebration steeped in community support.

“This doesn’t get more local than this,” Friedman said, noting that all performers, partners, and sponsors are rooted in the area. “It’s not just a concert—it’s an experience, a chance to gather and celebrate the season together.”

A Diverse Musical Journey

Freedog’s five-piece band will close out the live music portion of the evening with their eclectic sound, which Friedman describes as “roots rock with hints of psychedelic funk.” The setlist will include original songs and the occasional cover, creating a dynamic and engaging performance. “We like to play with the crowd’s energy,” he said. “Whether it’s a short, heartfelt song or an exploratory jam, we want people to feel the connection.”

Attendees are encouraged to embrace the solstice spirit with festive attire—think white, blue, or shimmering sequins. “We want this to be a celebration, something people look forward to year after year,” Friedman said.
