Calm weather through the weekend, changes coming Sunday evening
Mild temps and mostly sunny skies will persist through the weekend
PARK CITY, Utah – A weak storm system will be impacting Utah starting on Sunday evening, bringing an end to a 10-day dry spell. Cold air begins to trickle in Sunday afternoon, along with a chance of some light flurries beginning in the mountains. By Monday morning however, a stronger cold front will arrive dropping temperatures by about 15 degrees and bringing some light precipitation.
The storm does not appear to be a big snow producer, with only about an inch expected for the Park City town/base area, and 1-3″ for the Wasatch mountains. There is a slight chance for some lake effect snow overnight Monday and Tuesday morning, which would boost snow totals slightly for favored locations.
One main impact from the storm however will be eroding the strong inversions in the northern valleys, most likely beginning Sunday afternoon as the colder air begins to move in. Residents in Salt Lake, Davis, and Utah Counties have been dealing with poor air quality since last Sunday. By Monday morning, these areas should be completely scoured out and see much better air quality. Until then however, air quality remains in the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” category for the Wasatch front.
After the storm Sunday/Monday, the next chance for any significant snowfall isn’t until next weekend.
