Summit County to receive $500K from Katz Amsterdam mental health grants

PARK CITY, Utah—The Katz Amsterdam Charitable Trust has announced more than $2.83 million in grants to support mental and behavioral health initiatives in mountain resort communities in the West. The funding, which will be directed to 10 communities, will enhance access to mental health services, reduce stigma, and expand culturally responsive care.

Since 2016, Katz Amsterdam has contributed more than $27 million to mountain communities, with $19 million specifically supporting mental and behavioral health efforts. This year’s funding will bolster programs in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, California, Nevada, Idaho, and Vermont, addressing key needs such as peer support training, youth mental health programming, substance use recovery, and bilingual services for underserved populations.

In Utah, the Park City Community Foundation, which has partnered with Katz Amsterdam for more than six years, is allocating $500,000 to Summit County. The funding will benefit local organizations, including Latino Behavioral Health Services, Jewish Family Services, People’s Health Clinic, Peace House, Christian Center of Park City, Holy Cross Ministries, Live Like Sam, Summit County Clubhouse, and the Summit County Recovery Foundation. The organizations will focus on improving access to care, expanding bilingual support, and addressing substance use recovery.

“These grants represent a critical investment in the health and well-being of our community,” said Diego Zegarra, vice president of equity and inclusion at the Park City Community Foundation. “By supporting local organizations that provide culturally responsive care and expanding access to mental health resources, we are creating a stronger, more inclusive Summit County. This funding will make a meaningful difference for individuals and families who have historically faced barriers to care.”

Other communities receiving funding include Aspen, Crested Butte, Eagle County, Summit County, Telluride, and Sun Valley. In Jackson, Wyoming, funding will support Latina Empowerment Circles and youth mental health programming. In Tahoe/Truckee, California/Nevada, grants will enhance peer services and substance use recovery programs for youth and adults in Spanish. The Vermont Community Foundation will use its funds to support statewide mental and behavioral health efforts.

“These grants are an investment in the well-being of mountain communities and reflect the power of local organizations to create meaningful change,” said Beth Ganz, executive director of the Katz Amsterdam Foundation. “We are particularly inspired by the culturally responsive services that are meeting the needs of communities of color and fostering equity in mental health care.”

The Katz Amsterdam Foundation and Charitable Trust, established by Vail Resorts Executive Chairperson Rob Katz and Elana Amsterdam, focuses on eliminating systemic barriers, increasing access to opportunity, and improving health outcomes through community-driven efforts.

The Park City Community Foundation has generated more than $57.8 million in impact since 2007, supporting programs like Live PC Give PC, Women’s Giving Fund, and Zero Food Waste.
