Summit County Council to consider $1.5M in recreation and arts funding
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah – At the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6, the Summit County Council will review and consider approving funding for new projects recommended by the Summit County Recreation Arts and Parks (RAP) Advisory Committee.
The RAP committee received 22 grant applications, of which 19 were found acceptable to review.
Of the 19 eligible applications, three were for projects in North Summit County, six from South Summit County, four from Park City, and six from Snyderville Basin.
The RAP committee was allocated $1,586,000 for projects in 2024, but with 19 applications requesting a total of $2,889,854, the committee faces a shortfall of $1,303,854 to meet all funding requests.
Park City Municipal, Henefer, Mountain Trails Foundation, Summit County, and the Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District (SBSRD) each submitted individual applications requesting over $250,000. Park City Municipal’s three applications totaled $356,374, while SBSRD’s requests amounted to $499,915.
Although the committee has managed funding gaps in previous years, this year, only four applicants were recommended to receive their full requested amount, with two of those requests under $30,000 each.
Four applications were denied entirely and did not receive any funding. These were SBSRD’s Chlorine Generator, PCMC’s Gym Curtain Divider, the Summit County Bike Share program to improve ridership, and Coalville City Chalk Creek Phase 2.
Among the four projects recommended for full funding, Park City Municipal is set to receive $27,092 to purchase and install a new hockey scoreboard.
The SBSRD is recommended to receive $275,000 for renovations at the East Canyon Creek trailhead, $93,000 to resurface the Willow Creek tennis and pickleball courts, and $25,765 to equip a newly acquired Polaris UTV with grooming attachments.
Park City Municipal was also recommended to receive $200,000 for improvements to the MARC for improvements to the aquatic center, $100,000 short of the $300,000 Park City Municipal requested for the project.
The South Summit School District was recommended to receive nearly $70,000 for the construction of restrooms at the recreation center, falling roughly $50,o00 short of the request.
The town of Henefer is recommended to receive $161,000 of the requested $354,000 for improvements to its recreation center.
Mountain Trails Foundation is also recommended to receive $200,000 of the $283,660 requested for trail surfacing in Round Valley.
