HEBER CITY, Utah β Julie Monahan, the Democratic candidate for Utah House District 59, is running on a platform of responsible growth, local community support, and transparent governance. A three-decade resident of the Wasatch Back, Monahan aims to bring a moderate perspective to the Utah State Legislature while advocating for sustainable development that preserves the districtβs natural beauty.
βUtah is at a tipping point. If we donβt make the right decisions now, the things we love about Utah will be lost forever,β Monahan said. βIβm running to ensure that working families, small businesses, and future generations all have the opportunity to thrive.β
Monahanβs career at IBM spans 30 years, where she worked with federal, state, and local governments. Specializing in data-driven decision-making and performance measurement, Monahan said she plans to leverage that experience in the legislature to advocate for policies emphasizing transparency and accountability.
βThe supermajority, which my opponent is a part of, has voted for bills that diminish our personal freedoms,β she said. βWhether itβs bodily autonomy or banning books without local parental involvement, those things are all personal liberties that I think we deserve.β
Monahan said her candidacy reflects the need for more balanced representation in the state legislature. βWe need more balance in our legislature because with more balance, we will create better policies and avoid unintended consequences,β she said.
Her campaign prioritizes affordable housing, quality public education, and local control over development decisions, which she said are essential to maintaining the district’s quality of life. She is also committed to protecting Utahβs natural resources, advocating for policies that promote sustainable growth.
βI believe we can balance progress with preservation, and thatβs what Iβm fighting for,β Monahan said.
