UHP catches wanted Iowa man in Summit County after high-speed chase
Utah Highway Patrol troopers say he fled a traffic stop on I-80, hitting speeds up to 113 mph with a 4-year-old child in the car.
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah – A 21-year-old man was arrested Monday after Utah Highway Patrol troopers say he fled a traffic stop on I-80, hitting speeds up to 113 mph with a 4-year-old child in the car.
The chase began near milepost 179 when troopers attempted to pull over a Nissan with Iowa plates for driving 91 mph in an 80 zone, according to an affidavit.
The driver, identified as Calvin Scott, refused to stop, accelerating to over 100 mph. Troopers deployed tire spikes, deflating the front tires and stopping the car near milepost 119 on I-84.
A woman and a child were also in the vehicle. The child was not in a car seat and has since been placed with child services, pending the woman’s release.
Scott had an active warrant in Iowa and was driving with an expired Illinois license. He was booked into Summit County Jail, facing charges of felony fleeing, child endangerment, reckless driving, and more. The woman, who owns the vehicle, faces no charges but was uncooperative post-arrest.
