Take a walk through Midway at Sunday’s 5th annual Volksmarch
MIDWAY, Utah — For the fifth year in a row, the nonprofit Preserve Midway invites the community for their all-ages, all-skill level Volksmarch.
German for Folks Walk, this non-competitive event will showcase other vendor tents like Summit Land Conservancy.
It’s Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10:00 – 1:00 starting and ending at the Midway Town Square, rain or shine, where the food trucks and live music will be set up.
Volksmarching is a European tradition to hold a 5k or 10k walk to bring people together and celebrate what makes their town unique.
They began this tradition to raise awareness of the strong desire to protect Midway’s rural and agricultural feel.
Midway’s Volksmarch will take walkers past historic homes, barns, unique geologic features, quaint businesses on Main Street, and to the top of iconic Memorial Hill.
“The Midway Volksmarch is the perfect kick-off to the beautiful fall season,” Town organizers said in a statement.
Ely the Fresian Horse will be leading the way towards trails which highlight the Snake Creek on a parcel of land that has been walking the path to a conservation easement. Utah Open Lands works closely with the mission, as does the Midway Historical Preservation Committee which will provide historical stories and facts trail-marking.
Traditional German dress, cow bells, and Stocknagel walking sticks are encouraged as families can utilize the climbing wall and face painting.
“It’s a great event that invites all people to come see why Midway is special to us and to also see why Midway is worth preserving,” organizers said in the statement.
Proceeds from the event will benefit open space conservation efforts.
