SheJumps offers Ikon Pass scholarships for women of color across US
Scholarship winners will also receive a ski lesson at participating Ikon Pass destinations, including Deer Valley and Solitude.
SALT LAKE CITY — SheJumps, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing women’s participation in outdoor activities, is offering scholarships to help women of color hit the slopes this winter, with opportunities available at Utah resorts.
The Snowpack Ikon Pass Scholarship Program, launched in partnership with Sturtevant’s/Christy Sports and Ikon, aims to address the underrepresentation of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) women in outdoor recreation.
Thirty Ikon Passes will be awarded for the 2024-25 winter season. The scholarship includes a season pass, ski or snowboard rentals, and a half-day lesson at select Ikon Pass mountains, including Deer Valley Resort and Solitude.
Eligible applicants include self-identifying cisgender and transgender women of color, as well as non-binary people of color over 18. The program emphasizes financial need and welcomes applicants of all skill levels, including beginners.
Utah residents can benefit from season-long equipment rentals through Christy Sports locations in the state. For those not near a Christy Sports outlet, one-day rentals are available through Ski Butlers at select Ikon Pass destinations.
SheJumps, founded in 2007, has seen previous scholarship recipients become ski instructors and lifelong enthusiasts. The organization views this program as a step toward making mountain sports more inclusive in Utah and beyond.
Applications for the scholarship close on September 30 at midnight MT. Interested individuals can apply here or through the SheJumps website.
