Red flag fire warning remains in effect through Sept. 3
PARK CITY, Utah – A red flag warning issued by the National Weather Service remains effect until midnight tonight, September 3. The risks are dry thunderstorms and gusty winds which could easily combine for disastrous fires.
The Salt Lake Desert and Wasatch Mountains are listed as the two high-risk watch areas.
The forecast in both areas calls for widely scattered dry thunderstorms along with winds in excess of 45 mph.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or are imminent. A combination of lightning, dry fuel conditions, and gusty microburst winds will create favorable conditions for new fire starts and extreme fire behavior.
