Park City seeks artists for Olympic-themed gondola, snow globe displays

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City is calling on Utah artists to transform ski gondolas and snow globes into Winter Olympic-themed art installations for the upcoming winter season.

The Canyons Village Management Association (CVMA) and Historic Park City Alliance (HPCA) are seeking proposals for the “Gondola & Snow Globe Art Stroll” project. The artists chosen will decorate the interiors of five inactive gondolas and seven snow globes, which will be displayed at Canyons Village at Park City Mountain and along Park City’s historic Main Street.Elizabeth Walsh's gondola "A Stroll through Park City"

Artists are invited to create magical scenes celebrating the area’s Winter Olympic legacy. The project encourages designs featuring movement, festive lighting, and hidden objects for a scavenger hunt.

Each installation comes with a $4,000 budget, covering all expenses including materials, labor, and artist fees. The gondolas will feature artwork on a 60-by-69-inch plywood platform, while the snow globes will use a 30-inch rotating base.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. MT on October 16. Selected artists will be announced on October 23. Installations will be completed between November 18 and 21. The art stroll will launch on November 22 and remain on display until April 2025.

Preference will be given to Summit County residents, but all Utah-based artists are eligible to apply. The Arts Council of Park City & Summit County is managing the application process.

Interested artists can submit their proposals and required materials to thea@pcscarts.org. More information about the project and application requirements can be found on the Arts Council’s website.
