Maverik gas station project in limbo over parking
PARK CITY, Utah – The Snyderville Basin Planning Commission delayed the Maverik gas station project at Quinn’s Junction, citing concerns about exceeding the parking space limit set by local code. Maverik revised its plan to reduce parking from 37 to 31 spots but awaits a review of a parking study. Maverik representatives contend the industry standard is 48 parking spots, but limits for Snyderville Basin would currently only allow 21 stalls. Language in the code allows exceptions to be made under certain circumstances.
Maverik wants to build the gas station at the intersection of Old Highway 40 and Atkinson Road near S.R. 248.
Why it matters: Maverik argues that 31 spaces are necessary to meet demand, while commissioners want to avoid future appeals. The site could provide needed fuel services between Park City and Kamas. Currently, there are no service station on S.R. 248.
UDOT’s role: The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is evaluating options to improve pedestrian and bike access near the site, considering bike lanes and a shared-use path. UDOT’s final decision will affect the station’s connectivity and safety measures.
What’s next: The commission will revisit the project later for a potential vote.
