Live Like Sam Gala raises $400,000 to support youth mental health initiatives

“Now is the time to get behind youth well-being and prevention.” - Ron Jackenthal, co-founder and executive director of Live Like Sam

PARK CITY, Utah — The Live Like Sam Foundation’s annual gala, held on September 21 in Park City, raised $400,000. The funds will support local youth mental health and well-being programs. The event, attended by over 400 people, aimed to elevate the conversation around youth mental health while celebrating community involvement.

“Our greatest accomplishment wasn’t the money we raised but the connection we made to our supporters,” said Ron Jackenthal, co-founder of Live Like Sam.

Jackenthal emphasized the importance of addressing youth mental health, calling it “arguably the most widespread critical issue” facing the community.

“We are already seeing substantial positive changes, and we’re just scratching the surface,” he added.

The evening began with a silent auction and cocktail hour, accompanied by live performances from local youth singers. Later, former American Idol contestant Wyatt Pike provided musical entertainment during dinner. The program also included a film by local filmmaker Sam Fish, showcasing the community’s efforts to promote mental health and resilience among vulnerable youth.

Jackenthal highlighted the night’s emotional impact, including a heartfelt speech from his daughter and Live Like Sam co-founder Skylar.

Looking ahead, the foundation plans to invest $500,000 in free programming for Summit and Wasatch Counties, aiming to reach 6,000 local youth by next year. Despite the gala’s success, Jackenthal noted the ongoing challenge of sustainability. “Every day after our event is Groundhog Day,” he said, stressing the need for more stable funding sources to continue the foundation’s work.

The event concluded with a live auction and a performance by Super Diamond, a Neil Diamond tribute band that kept the energy high as guests danced. Jackenthal expressed optimism and a sense of urgency regarding the foundation’s future, stating, “Now is the time to get behind youth well-being and prevention.”
