Vehicle fire on I-80 Westbound causes lane closures

UPDATE: According to an update from Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) a single passenger vehicle impacted the crash cushion on the south edge of the roadway and subsequently rolled.  The car then caught on fire and burned. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was rescued by a motorist who witnessed the crash.  The driver was transported in critical condition.  Troopers are investigating to see if impairment was a factor in the crash.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — At 9:50 a.m., a crash on I-80 Westbound, just 1 mile east of the Lamb’s Canyon exit, caused a vehicle fire. Responders arrived to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire.

The accident has closed the Westbound left lane of traffic. The current estimated time of reopening is 12:10 p.m.
