Snowbasin Resort unveils upgrades ahead of 2034 Winter Olympics

HUNTSVILLE, Utah – Snowbasin Resort, one of the oldest continuously-operated ski resorts in the U.S., recently announced a series of capital investments ahead of the next two winter seasons. The upgrades will include a high-speed chairlift, refurbished gondola cabins, improved beginner terrain, along with enhanced parking and traffic flow.

As Snowbasin gears up to host the Alpine Skiing events for the 2034 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, these improvements are designed to boost accessibility and efficiency. “These enhancements will further elevate the world-class amenities and top-notch service we strive to provide,” said Davy Ratchford, Snowbasin’s General Manager.

Key upgrades

Becker Chairlift: The upgrade to this 1986 lift will transform it from a fixed-grip triple chair to a high-speed detachable quad, cutting ride time in half and increasing capacity to 1,800 riders per hour. The lift will be operational by the 2025-26 season.
Gondola Enhancements: A multi-year project is underway to refurbish the Needles Gondola cabins, with the first upgrades visible for the 2024-25 ski season.
Beginner Terrain: The Becker Chairlift’s transformation also includes improved access and safety in the surrounding Family Zone, with widened trails and a repositioned bottom terminal.
Parking & Traffic: In partnership with the Utah Department of Transportation, Snowbasin is implementing a new traffic pattern to increase vehicle speed by 25% and incentivize carpooling with express parking for vehicles with three or more passengers on weekends.

The planned upgrades continue Snowbasin’s legacy of investing in the resort following the 2002 Winter Games. As the 2034 Olympics approach, Snowbasin says they are positioning themselves as a premier destination for skiers and spectators alike.
