Sandhill cranes take center stage in new Swaner photo exhibit

PARK CITY, UT — A new exhibition at the Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter in Park City highlights the natural beauty of the Swaner Preserve and its resident sandhill cranes. Titled “Beauty & the Beaks: A Photographic Love Letter to the Swaner Preserve,” the exhibit runs from Aug. 23 to Dec. 1, and is free to the public.

The exhibition features the work of photographers Steve Krongard and Jodi Buren, who have spent years capturing the diverse landscapes of the preserve. Their photographs showcase the interaction of earth, sky, and light in the preserve’s wetlands, offering viewers a unique perspective on this protected area.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to engage with the exhibit through various interactive experiences designed to deepen their understanding of the ecosystem and the cranes that thrive there. These hands-on activities, which are available in both English and Spanish, make the exhibition accessible and enjoyable for all ages. In addition, the exhibition includes an interpretive guidebook to help visitors understand the ecosystem.

The exhibit is open during regular EcoCenter hours, Wednesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A “Meet the Artists” event is scheduled for Sept. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m., offering an opportunity for the public to engage with Krongard and Buren. The event, open to those 21 and older, will include a discussion with the artists and light refreshments. Tickets are free, but advance registration is required.
