Saint Luna set to rock Park City with guitarist’s hometown show

Park City High School alumnus Charlie Black comes back to where it all began

PARK CITY, Utah — Saint Luna, the San Diego-based band featuring Park City native and rhythm guitarist Charlie Black, will perform at Premiere Park City on Friday, Aug. 23. This will be the band’s first performance in Park City since 2022.

Reflecting on the upcoming Park City show, Black expressed a mix of excitement and nerves. “It’s equal parts exciting and nerve-inducing!” he said. “We’ve been cutting our teeth playing everything from bigger venues to 20-person corporate gigs. It’s thrilling to have friends and family who have only seen or heard us online or on records come to see us live.”

Saint Luna has been breaking through the Southern California music scene over the past few years. The band’s debut full-length album, released in January, marked a pivotal shift in their musical direction. “We started as a more indie and groovy band,” Black explained. “Since the release of our debut album, we are moving in a direction we call ‘Desert Rock.’ It’s a sound inspired by alternative music and rock ’n’ roll. It’s rock with some edge and attitude but done tastefully and in a new way.” Listen here.

Black is eager to share the band’s evolution with his hometown. “The biggest influence I had at PCHS was meeting my now close friend, Shane Cumming. He’s a phenomenal musician and guitarist and acted as a catalyst for introducing me to many styles and flavors. Watching his band, Blind Design, lit a fire in me to have my own project,” Black said.

Looking ahead, Saint Luna has no plans to slow down. They are working on new music, with two EPs planned for release next year. “We’re hungry and motivated, so we are constantly writing new music, playing gigs to keep the chops up, and scheming creative projects like live sessions in the desert. We’re keeping this train rolling,” Black shared.

For young musicians in Park City aspiring to follow a similar path, Black offers simple but powerful advice: “Don’t stop. If you can play for two minutes a day, it’s better than nothing.”

“If you really want it, be obsessed with it and devote energy towards it. It will materialize for you, whatever it may look like.”
