Park City’s Miners Day celebration digs into tradition on Sept 2

From pancake breakfasts to drilling competitions, Park City’s Miners Day has something for everyone on Sept. 2

PARK CITY, Utah — As summer winds down, Park City gears up for its annual Miners Day celebration on Monday, Sept. 2. The day will be full of fun events that pay homage to our town’s rich mining history.

The day kicks off with the traditional Miners Day Breakfast at City Park, running from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Organized by Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, the breakfast is free, with a suggested donation of $5.

The Bark City 5K invites runners and their pups to take on a self-timed course along the historic Rail Trail. Organized by the Park City Twilight Rotary, this event raises funds for local animal rescue organizations. Dogs on leashes and in costume are highly encouraged. The race begins at 8:00 a.m. Register here.

At 10:30 a.m., all eyes turn to Main Street for the crowd-favorite Running of the Balls, where 15,000 golf balls race down the street in a Park City Rotary Club fundraiser. Then will come the 129th annual Miners Day Parade, which will make its way down Main Street with fire trucks, bands, and community floats. Register for the Miners Day Parade here. Applications will be open until 5:00 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, 2024.

The afternoon brings more entertainment back to City Park, with live music from 11:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., accompanied by a selection of food trucks and a beer garden. Kids can partake in games like sack and wheelbarrow races starting at 12:30 p.m. Also at 12:30, the more adventurous can witness the intense mucking and drilling competitions.

Miners Day will surely be, once again, a celebration of Park City’s history and community spirit.
