MO/GO™ launches the e-bike of pants, helping you move through the mountains
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Arc’teryx and Skip have announced the launch of MO/GO™, touted as the world’s first pair of powered pants designed to enhance human movement.
The collaboration aims to support users in being more active by increasing stamina and reducing pain through wearable robotics. MO/GO addresses mobility challenges caused by aging, fatigue and injury. Pre-orders are now available, with shipments expected in late 2025.
Skip, founded as a Google X project and spun out in 2023, partnered with Arc’teryx’s Advanced Concepts team to create MO/GO. The powered pants provide a 40% boost to leg muscles when ascending and support knees during descent, using a battery-operated motor with sensors and a computer module.
Arc’teryx integrated the system into their Gamma Pant, adding carbon support structures for comfort during extended hikes. The product has been tested on trails in the U.S. and British Columbia.
Katie Becker, Chief Creative Officer at Arc’teryx, said in a release, “Arc’teryx was founded on a love for the mountains, and creating products which enable people to push themselves and reach new heights. When the Skip team reached out with their early MO/GO prototype, we were immediately intrigued.”
“Through extensive testing, prototyping and pushing the boundaries of design, we’ve seen testers get back out in the mountains they love – scaling summits and challenges they thought were lost to them. That’s what it’s all about to us – creating space to share our love of the mountains – and we’re so excited to see the MO/GO out in the world,” Becker said.
Skip’s Co-Founder, Kathryn Zealand, added, “By bringing together Skip’s expertise in artificial intelligence and powered wearable technology and Arc’teryx’s renowned product design and engineering excellence, we’ve created a product that truly transforms the outdoor experience.”
The public can test MO/GO at the Arc’teryx Climbing Academy in Squamish in August 2024, however there is a waitlist. Skip also plans to operate rental locations around the U.S. this fall. Currently rentals can be reserved now in Utah at Zion National Park with plans to expand to hikes near Salt Lake City and Moab in the future.
