Guided hikes, live performances on Historic Park City Alliance’s August lineup
PARK CITY, Utah — The Historic Park City Alliance has shared its full event lineup for the month of August, featuring guided hikes, plays and musical performances.
“We are thrilled to kick off August with three days of the Kimball Arts Festival, one of the top-ranked arts festivals in the country,” said Ginger Wicks, executive director of the Historic Park City Alliance. “As always, our music venues have a full schedule of concerts, while the Park City Museum provides deep dives into Park City’s rich history with guest lectures and guided hikes.”

Fashion’s First Friday – Park City Style
Friday, Aug. 2 4-7 p.m.
Get ready for a stylish summer in Park City with the launch of Fashion’s First Friday Park City Style, a monthly shopping event set to invigorate Main Street. Boutiques along Main Street will open their doors from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to offer a unique shopping experience on the first Friday of every month through the rest of the year and into 2025.
Participating boutiques include The Collective Park City, We Norwegians, Panache, Grace Clothiers, Chamomile, JW Bennett, Flight, Cake, Olive & Tweed, and Romy. Each boutique will offer special experiences such as brand showcases, pop-ups, discounts, and other exclusive deals.

In its 53rd year, the Kimball Arts Festival welcomes juror-selected artists from around the world with twelve different art mediums represented. In addition to viewing and purchasing art, festival attendees can enjoy live music, artist demonstrations led by Kimball Art Center education staff, kids’ art classes and education programs, and craft beer and artisan cuisine. Proceeds support Kimball Art Center’s year-round exhibitions, education, and creative community events.
Thaynes Canyon Hike with Melissa Clark
Tuesday, Aug. 6 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This 6- to 6.5-mile-long hike, with a vertical elevation of nearly 1,100 feet, explores the history of the Crescent and Bogan Mines, the California-Comstock Mine, and the area of the controversial murder of Matt Brennan in 1883.
The Deserts of the Wests: Then and Now Lecture
Wednesday, Aug. 7 5 -6 p.m.
A just-completed research project shows how increasing aridity in the West is changing desert landscapes. Using repeat photography, ecologist James W. Cornett spent four years relocating historical photo sites and taking new photographs from identical perspectives. He will share his findings at this lecture which will be held at the Park City Museum Education and Collections Center located at 2079 Sidewinder Drive.

45th Star Conservation Preserve Hike with Wendy Fisher and Michael O’Malley

You’ve heard about Deer Valley’s “Expanded Excellence” terrain. Did you know it comes with a 3,100-acre conservation easement? Learn about the 45th Star Conservation Preserve and the mining history and ecology within its borders on this 6+ mile hike.
Mavis Staples, Cimafunk, Cory Mon Live at The Marquis Park City
Thursday, Aug. 15 7 p.m.
Thursday night at The Marquis is the official start to Park City Song Summit starring the legendary Mavis Staples, followed by Cimafunk for a groundbreaking late-night performance. Start the night with singer-songwriter Cory Mon.

Sweeney Switchback Hike with David Nicholas
Saturday, Aug. 17 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This hike follows the Sweeney Switchback up to the Silver King Coalition Mine. During the hike, participants will discuss the Silver King Aerial Tramway, the Silver King Mine Company, the former industrial area of lower Park City and the connection between the Brooklyn Bridge and the tramway.
Saturday, Aug. 17 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Illustrating Park City’s rich history from booming silver mining town to world-class skiing destination, the award-winning Park City Museum offers interactive exhibits, artifacts, and the city’s original basement jail. Admission is FREE on select days for friends and family to enjoy the museum.
Ambrosia at The Egyptian Theatre
Tuesday, Aug. 20 through Sunday, Aug. 25
With hits including “How Much I Feel” and “Biggest Part of Me,” this American rock band formed in 1970 explores the possibilities of progressive and classical music, and is rooted with the soul of the blues and R&B.
Rossie Hill Hike with Dalton Gackle
Wednesday, Aug. 21 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Join Park City Museum Research Coordinator Dalton Gackle to explore Rossie Hill and Prospect Ave/St, and the architecture of approximately 30 homes along the way. The hike/walk will require climbing stairs, briefly going along a trail, and crossing Marsac Avenue twice. It is slightly more strenuous than past architecture tours and will take between 2 and 3 hours.
Silver King Mine Hike with Heather Tourkin
Tuesday, Aug. 27 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This 6.5- to 7-mile-long hike, with a vertical elevation of nearly 1,400 feet, follows the extant Silver King tram towers, skirting the counterweight, on its way up Sweeney’s Switchback/John’s Trails to the Silver King Shaft House at the base of Bonanza Lift. The Silver King Mine has the largest remaining collection of mining structures within the Park City Mining District.
