Aussie golfer wins PGA’s Korn Ferry Utah Championship
FARMINGTON, Utah — The PGA’s Korn Ferry Tour Utah Championship was held August 1 – 4 at Utah’s Oakridge Country Club just North of Salt Lake City. Australian Karl Villips took home the $180,000 purse as the winner with his -25 final round.
A fellow Aussie tied for eighth and Germany’s Thomas Rosenmeuller tied for fifth. Aside from those foreign athletes, every other player on the leaderboard up to 20th place were American.
Joe Weiler, and Matt McCarty were also on the podium.
Meanwhile, across the pond in Paris, Team USA’s Scottie Scheffler, who won the gold medal in golf on August 4 at the Olympics, told NBC, “It’s very different and fun here at the Olympics how we as golfers spend so much energy trying to finish in at least second or third place for medals, whereas any other time in three and a half years it simply doesn’t really matter that much to us in our sport.”
McCarty’s third place result lands him in the top-30 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List, a PGA TOUR membership for the following season.
