Summit County fire danger escalated to extreme

“Last year, 154 of the 170 wildfires across all suppression agencies in northern Utah were human-caused; a grim statistic that we do not want to repeat.” - Brett Ostler Photo: Marcus Kauffman
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Fire danger in Summit County escalated from very high to extreme today.
This comes on the heels of a fire ban that was put into place by Park City Council on July 11. Residents should be prepared for a county-wide fireworks ban for all un-incorporated parts of Summit County, which is expected to be authorized this week.
“Drift smoke from fires in the Northwestern States is expected across Summit County over the next few days,” said a statement from Summit County. “There are no active fires in Summit County at this time. Only report a fire if you see a defined smoke column or flames.”
Summit County offers text updates for fire outlooks, conditions, Red Flag Warnings, prescribed burns and active fire updates. To enroll, text SCFIREINFO to 888777.
