Park City Municipal seeks artist for third phase of EmPOWERment utility box design project
This is the third phase of the original EmPOWERment project that initially took place in 2018 and 2023, placing 53 artworks on utility boxes around town
PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Municipal is seeking proposals from local artists in a continuation of the EmPOWERment Public Art Utility Box Project.
The city is inviting artists and artist teams to submit two-dimensional artwork that is reflective of the Wasatch Back and centers on the EmPOWERment theme to be displayed on utility boxes throughout Park City.
“Project goals include creating vibrancy on public utility infrastructure around Park City and engaging the community through visual art in ways that align with the natural environment, arts and culture, community, and history, and are reflective of Park City,” states the request for proposal.
Up to 34 chosen artists/teams will receive $400 for each artwork design out of the EmPOWERment project’s $13,600 budget. Park City Municipal will oversee fabrication and installation of the utility boxes.
The RFP opened on June 18, and is set to close on Monday, Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. Artists will be chosen on Aug. 12 at 5 p.m., pending final approval from the city council on Sept. 5. Chosen artwork is expected to be installed before Oct. 28.
