Catch Olympic fever at Park City’s Springer Tournee July 20
PARK CITY, Utah — Visit the Utah Olympic Park to witness Ski Jumping’s most unique competition event: the Spin the Wheel target competition at the upcoming Springer Tournee on July 20.
The event takes place just a few days before the Olympic announcement, and will feature local Parkites to Olympic and National Team Members in a distinctive fundraising competition. After the competition, enjoy a bluegrass performance from Salt Lake City band Theoretical Blonde, and bring the whole family to savor fare from local food trucks and draft beers from Offset Bier. All ages are welcome, and kids 12 and under are free.
The highlight of the event is the one-of-a-kind Spin the Wheel target competition. Athletes will spin a wheel before each round and are challenged to jump as close as possible to the distance they spin.
“The event format is very alternative,” said Adam Loomis, director of Park City Ski & Snowboard. “Athletes will have multiple rounds where they spin a prize wheel to determine their jumping distances. It’s exciting and impressive to watch.”
Competitions kick off on Thursday with a 90-meter jump, followed by Nordic combined racing at Soldier Hollow on Friday, and a small hills competition on Saturday morning. At the Tournee’s Finale Saturday evening from 5:30 – 8:30 spectators will be up close to the action at the base of the Olympic ski jumps, with a live video board showing multiple camera angles to enhance the experience. Various food trucks, including Shaka Shake Bowl and Lush’s BBQ, will be on-site.
Spectators will also have the opportunity to enjoy a VIP experience. VIP entries include one meal and a drink ticket, along with exclusive access to a tour led by a 2022 Olympic ski jumper. The tour consists of a chairlift ride to the top of the ski jump and a walk down the stairs lining the jump for unparalleled views.
All proceeds from the event support youth programming at Park City Ski & Snowboarding, providing opportunities for all abilities to experience snow sports in the community. “We hope to have over 1,000 people at this event,” Loomis said. “It’s an important fundraiser for us, and we’re aiming to offset the cost of running the program and retaining coaches.”
The Springer Tournee is set to be an enticing prelude to the Olympic announcement on July 24, giving spectators a chance to see potential future Olympians and the likely 2034 Olympic venues. Free parking is available a short walk from the venue. Note that no outside food, beverages, or coolers are allowed; however, drinking water will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to bring empty reusable bottles.
