Mumbai on Main: well-loved Indian restaurant now open in Park City
PARK CITY, Utah — Mumbai House, a favorite among fans of authentic Indian Cuisine, recently opened a new location on lower Main Street in Park City.
Naysan Morad, a new partner in the Mumbai House restaurant, said he is thrilled to have opened their second location after weeks of hard work in preparation.
The restaurant is located at 890 Main St. #5115, a property previously occupied by the Mustang Grill.
As partners and restaurant staff prepared for their opening ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday evening, a few customers walked up. Morad said they let the visitors do the honors and cut the ribbon.
Mumbai House first opened its doors in Salt Lake City as Bombay House in 1993; it became one of only a few restaurants offering Indian cuisine in Salt Lake City.
Its original founder, Harpal Singh, moved to the U.S. from India after graduating from the restaurant profession there. With three partners at the time, Singh opened Bombay House locations in Provo and West Jordan, but a split between them two years ago led to their name change. Mumbai/Bombay are two names for the same city in India, so they became Mumbai House.
Morad sais Mumbai House’s philosophy is that feeding people is an important responsibility. As such, they prepare their food daily using fresh ingredients.
“People can tell if we don’t do it fresh,” Morad said.
Longtime chef and partner Ajmer Singh will be head chef at the Park City location. The menu will be the same as the menu in their Sugarhouse location, including popular dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Makhani or Butter Chicken. It will also feature new dishes like Mumbai Chicken Masala, a creamier masala dish, and Mumbai Soy Kabob, a vegan kabob dish.
