Fireworks ignite brush fire at the mouth of Parley’s Canyon

PARLEY’S CANYON, Utah — Officials believe fireworks started a blaze at the mouth of Parleys Canyon on Tuesday night, just above the I-80 on-ramp off I-215.

The on-ramp was temporarily closed while crews doused the blaze. Unified Fire Department Captain Tony Barker told ABC4 that two units were on the scene, and firefighters were able to contain the fire.

Ramps on both interstates should be open by Wednesday morning. Barker added that he expects “an untold number of fires” headed into the July 4 holiday due to the availability of fireworks. “We are prepared for a very active season,”

The fire is fully contained, and the on-ramp is open as of Wednesday morning.
