Park City Mountain shares sustainability achievements in 2023 report
Vail Resorts releases sustainability report highlighting environmental achievements and community partnerships
PARK CITY, Utah — Vail Resorts, which acquired Park City Mountain Resort in 2014, released its latest report, which highlights key sustainability and environmental protection achievements in 2022/23.
During that time period, Vail Resorts achieved its energy efficiency goal ahead of its 2030 target, as a result of a $10 million investment in on-mountain energy-saving projects since 2018.
Report Highlights for Vail Resorts, Overall
- Achieved 100% renewable electricity across its 37 North American resorts for the second consecutive year
- Reduced landfill waste by 6.1 million pounds (36%) from its baseline
- Hosted nearly 11,300 underrepresented youth last year, exceeding its 2022/23 youth access goal by 25%
- Partnered with 53 nonprofits across 30 resorts
- Invested in community priorities such as affordable childcare, housing, mental health care and disaster relief
- Doubled its investment in mental healthcare for employees since 2022
Report Highlights for Park City, Specifically
- Provided a $250K multi-year grant to the Park City Education Foundation to help fund full-day pre-school
- Partnered with the Park City Community Foundation to auction retired Red Pine Gondola cabins to raise an additional $403K in funds for the Early Childhood Alliance
- Opened the McGrath Mountain Center, a new 9,400-square-foot ADA-accessible facility operated by the National Ability Center (NAC) at the base of Park City Mountain in October 2023
- Partnered with 32 local nonprofits through grants and in-kind mountain access to support community priorities, including affordable housing, food security, accessible childcare, environmental sustainability, etc.
- Welcomed 441 Park City Mountain Employees to new housing located at the base of Canyons Village
