PCPD warns of new rental scam in Park City
PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Police Department detectives are warning residents of a new rental scam that has made its way to Park City.
According to a statement yesterday from the PCPD, the scam involves an individual renting a local Airbnb or VRBO for several days, then listing the property online to sublet to unsuspecting victims for a period of several months or up to a year.
The scammer then collects nearly $6,000 from the victim for first and last month’s rent, then stops accepting their calls.
“The unsuspecting tenants are then forced to find another place to live and lose their deposit,” said a statement from the PCPD. “If you believe you’ve been scammed, don’t wait! Call Police Dispatch at 435-615-5500.”
