Wings of change: Park City Hummingbird Hospital evolves into Wildlife Rehab hub

PARK CITY, Utah — The beloved Park City Hummingbird Hospital is spreading it’s wings, and has expanded to become a comprehensive Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic, and rebranding as Park City Wildlife Rehab. After years of caring for the hummingbird population, the clinic is making room for an even larger range of species, including small mammals and migratory birds.

The decision to expand, was primarily due to the local outreach of the Park City community. In a statement by Jody Giddings, the executive director of Park City Wildlife Rehab, she said, “We received over 550 calls to our wildlife hotline which included questions about where to take species other than hummingbirds.”

The new expansion will include a larger team of professionals with a niche in wildlife rehabilitation, have a broader focus on community engagement to raise awareness and provide educational programs, and continue to strengthen partnerships with those in the wildlife industry including wildlife authorities, conservation organizations, and veterinarians.

“Our expansion is a large one and it will take significant funding to make it a success,” Giddings said, including that with the expansion, they “are embarking on a special project to build 10 outdoor enclosures by the end of the year. These outdoor enclosures are essential to giving baby mammals and birds time to experience their natural habitat before release.”

Giddings expressed the clinic’s desperate need for property sites for the outdoor enclosures, and is seeking sponsors for the project. To become a sponsor, contact Park City Wildlife Rehab.
