Semi-truck fire carrying flammable gas briefly closes I-84 in Morgan County
The truck's trailer contained approximately 7,400 gallons of butane
MORGAN COUNTY, Utah — A vehicle fire involving a semi-truck carrying thousands of pounds of butane prompted the temporary closure of I-84 on Thursday, Jan. 4.
According to a statement from Morgan County Fire and EMS, multiple agencies responded to reports of a semi truck fire in the westbound rest area on I-84.
A blown tire reportedly started a fire, which began to impede on the tanker trailer. The trailer contained approximately 7,400 gallons of butane, and the Utah Highway Patrol closed and rerouted both east and westbound lanes of I-84 while crews worked to extinguish the fire.
“Morgan Fire Crews responded with an engine and helped supply Mountain Green Firefighters with water as well as aided in air and heat monitoring on the semi trailer,” said a statement from Morgan County Fire and EMS. “There was no compromise of the butane trailer. All of the product will be offloaded to a new trailer as a precaution.”
