Rep. John Curtis facing two potential challengers for House seat in 2024
Curtis is rumored to potentially be joining the race for Mitt Romney's senate seat
UTAH – U.S. Representative John Curtis, who represents the entirety of Wasatch County and most of Summit County in the U.S. House of Representatives, may have two potential challengers for his House seat in the 2024 election.
Curtis’s two potential challengers, Case Lawrence and state Sen. Mike Kennedy, both formed exploratory committees for a potential bid earlier this month.
“I am exploring a Congressional bid because now more than ever we need conservatives who can work with others to confront these issues head-on, bringing fiscal restraint, enhanced border security, and common sense leadership to Washington,” Sen. Kennedy said.
Kennedy, who represents Alpine in the state Senate, lost to Mitt Romney in the 2018 GOP primary. Kennedy is known for sponsoring Utah’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth, which passed the legislature in January of 2023.
Lawrence is a Utah County-based entrepreneur and the founder and former CEO of SkyZone, an indoor trampoline park with locations throughout the country.
“Utah’s 3rd District is among the most educated and entrepreneurial in our nation — and deserves a conservative leader who knows how to get things done in the real world,” Lawrence said.
“My priorities will be to protect and empower the American family, the American middle class, and American entrepreneurs.”
The formation of the two exploratory committees come as rumors continue to swirl regarding Curtis potentially joining the race for Mitt Romney’s senate seat.
Curtis initially said he would abstain from a senate bid in October of 2023, yet he is now reconsidering a senate campaign following support for him to do so.
