Fatal traffic collision on icy SR-40 claims two lives, Injures one
WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — A tragic accident on State Route 40 near Strawberry Reservoir resulted in two fatalities and serious injuries to another individual on Friday afternoon Nov. 24.
At approximately 4:39 PM, a gray Dodge Ram, driven by a 37-year-old male, was heading eastbound on the slick, icy road. According to preliminary investigations, the truck driver, allegedly traveling at a speed unsuitable for the hazardous road conditions, lost control of the vehicle. This led to the Ram veering into the opposing westbound lanes.
Simultaneously, a black Honda Accord, carrying a 21-year-old male driver and a 21-year-old female passenger, was proceeding westbound. The Accord collided with the Dodge Ram truck.
Officials confirmed that the male driver of the Dodge Ram and the female passenger of the Honda Accord were pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the Accord sustained serious injuries and was promptly transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the accident and urge drivers to exercise caution and adjust speeds according to weather and road conditions.
Names of the involved parties have not been released pending notification of next of kin. Traffic on SR-40 was affected for several hours as emergency crews worked on the scene.
